Matheus Nunes shares what he thought of Wolves after pre-season meeting

Wolves newest signing Matheus Nunes has revealed what he thought of Bruno Lage’s side when facing them in pre-season a couple of weeks ago.

Wolves and Sporting CP faced off in Faro, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

The game was always going to be a very interesting watch for Wolves fans.

Of course, former Wolves youngster Pedro Goncalves players for them. And Francisco Trincao has moved there on loan after spending the 2021/22 season with Wolves.

But probably the biggest reason everyone was tuning in, aside from seeing the progress of the team, was to see Nunes in action.

His quality was clear, and fans were left hoping that the club would be able to do a deal in the coming weeks.

That’s exactly what has transpired, and Nunes has given his thoughts about facing Wolves in his first interview with the club.

He said: “They were all good, for sure. They were fantastic and talked a lot of good stuff, and I could tell they had a lot of quality as well, because I’ve seen them on the TV, but in person it’s different, and I’m just happy to be here with them.

“We had been talking about this [move] before, but it happened really quick, but I’m prepared, I’m ready, and if I could, I’ll play already tomorrow. I want to play for the fans, I want to make the most of it, to enjoy myself, and just help the club.”

Wolves will be able to call on Nunes for this Saturday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Whether he is thrown in straight from the start though remains to be seen.

He’ll not have trained much with his new teammates, and Leander Dendoncker has been in pretty good form to start the season. Joao Moutinho is also back in contention to play.

Wolves-Sporting game might have been key to signing Matheus Nunes

That game between Wolves and Sporting a few weeks ago might just have been a really important factor in Nunes coming to Molineux.

Being able to see the dynamic of the team up close would surely have come into his thinking when Wolves came to make their offer.

Thankfully, Nunes liked what he saw, and he is on board with the project.

Now, he stands to become a central figure in Lage’s plans for the team. He is the player Wolves have been crying out for for at least a couple of years.
