Matheus Nunes appeal decision successful for Wolves as red card is overturned

Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes made headlines at the weekend after he received a red card against Leeds United without getting onto the pitch – but the decision has now been overturned after a successful appeal.

The star was an unused substitute at Molineux, with Joao Gomes starting in midfield along with Ruben Neves and Mario Lemina.

Right at the end of the game, Wolves were stung by a poor decision.

Rodrigo scored a fourth goal for Leeds, but Adama Traore had his shirt pulled as Leeds turned over possession.

Referee Michael Salisbury looked at the incident again via the pitchside monitor. But he stuck with his original decision.

This prompted fury on the Wolves bench.

Nunes was fuming, and the suggestion was that he had pushed the linesman just after the goal.

Footage has since emerged which seemingly shows the linesman just back into Nunes.

An official FA statement read (via The Athletic): “Matheus Nunes will be available for the next three Wolverhampton Wanderers games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal

The midfielder was sent off for violent conduct during the club’s Premier League game against Leeds United on Saturday 18 March.

A big boost for Wolves as club succeed with appeal against Matheus Nunes’ red card

This is a big relief.

Nunes’ reaction to receiving a red card was very telling. He clearly didn’t do anything wrong, and his behaviour was misinterpreted.

It is a big boost that Nunes will now not be unavailable for Wolves next three games.

The £85,000-a-week ace may not be in particularly good form right now.

But Wanderers are going to need him. He’s a quality player who, if he can find his mojo, can help steer Wolves away from danger.
