Matheus Cunha’s now deleted social media post amid uncertain Wolves future

Matheus Cunha is involved in a transfer tug-of-war involving multiple clubs, and Wolves fans will be excited for the saga to reach its resolution.

In the January transfer window, Wolves gave Cunha a new contract to prevent clubs from prising their star player from Molineux midway through the season.

But inserting a £62.5 million release clause into the 25-year-old’s deal has only seen teams come back with vengeance.

Cunha’s agent has already spoken to Manchester United while multiple other Premier League sides are in the running to land his signature, including Newcastle United, who have made Cunha their top target.

The Brazilian superstar is destined to leave Wolverhampton in the summer, and while that is a resolution that suits both parties, he’s hardly covered himself in glory.

Matheus Cunha’s deleted Instagram story

Towards the end of March, Cunha hinted at leaving Wolves in an interview with the Guardian, suggesting that he wants to take the next step and fight for titles.

As the talk about his future heated up once his thoughts were aired, Cunha urged fans to read the whole interview, emphasising that his transfer comments were just a small part of the discussion.

The former Atletico Madrid forward didn’t have to bring his future into the equation and since then, supporters have made their feelings clear on the player.

Cunha returns from his four-match ban against Tottenham on Sunday, but fans wanted him to remain on the bench, or even out of the matchday squad altogether.

Vitor Pereira granted supporters their wish by confirming he’ll leave Cunha on the bench against Spurs and go with an unchanged team this weekend.

However, after seeing his manager’s comments, it prompted a response from the Brazil international on social media, who posted some controversial words on his Instagram story.

“Time to be happy. I will follow my dreams and yours… So stay cool,” Cunha wrote, hinting that he already sees his future elsewhere and that he wants to follow his dreams.

But before facing backlash from the fanbase, he quickly deleted his post, perhaps instantly regretting what he put.

What Vitor Pereira should do with Cunha

Having already admitted Cunha won’t start this weekend, Pereira has done the right thing by leaving him out.

Ultimately, it would have set a poor example if a player can admit he wants to leave the club but still retain his place in the starting lineup after being banned.

Alan Shearer thinks Cunha won’t feature much more for Wolves, and realistically, Pereira should follow his advice and only use players who will be at the club next season.

For instance, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde could replace Cunha, and the Frenchman is already starring in his absence.

Why upset the applecart and play the Brazilian when the team have pieced together a four-match unbeaten run without him?
