Talk of Matheus Cunha’s future has dominated the media after the Wolves star’s interview with The Guardian.
Within the interview, Cunha suggested that he wants to leave Wolves as he mentioned his desire to ‘take the next step’.
In the January transfer window, the Brazilian was linked to several clubs however, he decided to put pen to paper on a new Wolves contract.
The forward admitted that he didn’t leave due to his desire to give back to Wolves, but what has stuck in the minds of fans is Cunha’s come and get me plea.

Matheus Cunha responds to Wolves transfer comments
Cunha has upset Wolves fans with his admission to The Guardian, with the consensus being that the 25-year-old should’ve waited until the end of the season to discuss his future.
Supporters aren’t the only ones who have shared an opinion on the matter, as Vitor Pereira was asked about Cunha’s comments during a press conference.
Media outlets far and wide have run riot since the Brazil international’s transfer plan was outed, and the player isn’t happy.
On Instagram (@Cunha), Cunha shared three stories to make his frustration with the media known, suggesting that those with an opinion should read the full story.
“What the real interview is like,” Cunha said with a screenshot of The Guardian’s title, which read, ‘All we want in life is affection – Wolves gave me back that joy’.
Next followed a screenshot of text from the article, which said the following.
“Sometimes all we want in life is affection. People think we have everything, but we’re human beings too. We need a bit of understanding – we have our difficulties. Wolves gave me that joy back. The fans have given me a lot. The status I have today, the player I am now and the happiness I’m feeling, it’s because of them. I’m really grateful to Wolves.”
The final post on Cunha’s story was a screenshot of the quote that has generated the most attention, “I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things.”
Over the screenshot, Cunha wrote, “And how do they get clicks? It’s impossible for the player to be honest in an interview knowing that everything can be taken in any way he wants.”
Cunha did not have to mention his transfer wishes
Cunha isn’t happy with how journalists and fans have interpreted his interview, but the words came from the player’s mouth with the understanding that all would see.
Nine games of the season remain, and the task is not yet over, which is why some are unsatisfied with the forward’s remarks.

The simplest way to avoid backlash would have been to not issue a desire to leave plea, as the remainder of the interview displayed his gratitude to Wolves.
Reaction to Cunha’s interview was unavoidable; however, what was avoidable was the transfer hysteria it has caused, something only the player can be held accountable for.
