Wolves supporters could breathe a sigh of relief when talisman Matheus Cunha committed his future to the club beyond the January transfer window.
As many as six Premier League clubs were interested in Cunha, including Arsenal, but Wolves were always confident of keeping their star forward.
Indeed, Cunha signed a new contract at Wolves and the club inserted a £62.5 million release clause in his deal, which will no doubt have big teams circling in the summer.
For now, though, supporters can enjoy watching their Brazilian master at work who has scored an impressive 12 goals in 25 matches in all competitions.
Cunha even recorded an incredible statistic against Blackburn last weekend, becoming the first player across Europe’s top five leagues to record 5+ shots on target and 5+ tackles in a single match.
Remarkably, this isn’t the only impressive club the 25-year-old has joined this term.

Matheus Cunha has hit double figures for Premier League goals in successive seasons
Since being captured from Atletico Madrid for £44 million in January 2023, the Brazil international has become one of the division’s best forwards.
Last season, Cunha’s goalscoring powers went to a new level under Gary O’Neil, with Wolves No.10 netting 12 Premier League goals – joint with Hwang Hee-chan.
Whilst the South Korean forward has trended in the opposite direction this term, Cunha has levelled up even more, finding the net 11 times in the top flight with 14 matches remaining.
The Wolves superstar has already hit double figures for Premier League goals in successive campaigns at Molineux, and this has only happened twice previously.
Player | Goals / Season |
Raul Jimenez | 17 / 2019/20 |
Raul Jimenez | 13 / 2018/19 |
Steven Fletcher | 12 / 2011/12 |
Steven Fletcher | 10 / 2010/11 |
Mexican hero Raul Jimenez hit double figures in the Premier League twice during their two seasons in the Europa League, with Steven Fletcher doing so in 2010/11 and 2011/12.
Wolves’ record scorers in the Premier League
Cunha joined Jimenez in scoring 10+ goals in successive campaigns, however, it’s unlikely the Brazilian will ever become Wolves’ all-time Premier League scorer.
If his long-term future at Molineux was guaranteed then he’d smash the record but since it’s likely he’ll leave in the summer, there’s little chance he eclipses Jimenez’s total of 40.
Player | Wolves all-time Premier League scorer |
Raul Jimenez | 40 goals |
Matheus Cunha | 25 goals |
Steven Fletcher | 22 goals |
Hwang Hee-chan | 22 goals |
Ruben Neves | 21 goals |
Cunha is currently 15 away from matching the Mexican striker and it would take something special from Wolves to convince him to stay long enough to break it.
