Wolves did some very interesting transfer business to say the least in the summer.
A number of high profile players left the club, with Wolves needing to make a big profit.
In the end, after Matheus Nunes was sold to Manchester City, six new players had come through the door for Wolves.
The second addition of the summer was particularly eyebrow-raising.
Matt Doherty, who left Wolves three years ago, re-signed on a free transfer, after leaving Atletico Madrid.
Some were left scratching their heads, because Doherty was renowned for playing as a right wing-back.
And that system was bombed out by Bruno Lage at the start of last season, in favour of a more traditional back four that uses full-backs.
Doherty has made a decent start so far and former Wolves defenders Barry Douglas and Ryan Bennett have praised the club’s move for him…
Barry Douglas and Ryan Bennett praise Wolves move for Matt Doherty
On a recent Wolves Weekly podcast episode, there was talk of Wolves moving to a back three/five.
Manchester City are up next for Wolves, and some have suggested it could be a good idea.

Ryan Bennett and Douglas were on the podcast, and they are two players who knew the wing-backs system very well.
At one point, Doherty is mentioned. Douglas believes Wolves fans should not see Doherty in the same way as they did during his first stint.
He said (Wolves Weekly): “The fans will probably expect the same Matt Doherty as before he left. But in reality it’s a completely different person and player that’s coming back. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. But we know how good a player Doc is so I’m sure he’ll be fine.”
Bennett added: “He’s done unbelievable for the club. He’s a very, very good player. You don’t go to Tottenham and go on loan to Atletico Madrid (if you don’t have something about you).
“It’s undoubted how good a player he is. As Baz was saying he’ll be a different guy now. If the team play in the right way he’ll be a massive weapon.”
Doherty will be an important player for Wolves
Doherty can be a really important player for Wolves this season.
At first it was a little strange to consider him coming back.
But he’s a more mature player these days and has obviously had that experience at Atletico, meaning he is surely better defensively.

Wolves still go to a back three with wing-backs in-game sometimes, so Doherty has the potential to dangerous as a right wing-back.
It’s also good that Wolves brought him back from a leadership standpoint.
