Martin Keown picks out the promising ‘signs’ he saw from Wolves against Aston Villa

As Wolves now turn their attention to Nottingham Forest, the fallout from their defeat to Aston Villa will certainly give them some confidence, and Martin Keown has said he saw good signs from the Old Gold.

Rob Edwards already knows himself that it was a much improved performance compared to what fans have been subjected to this season.

The Old Gold looked the better side, and Jorgen Strand Larsen certainly felt that way as well.

Once again, the issue was that ruthless edge up top, as the Wanderers had better chances of scoring than their opponents.

However, Aston Villa and Boubacar Kamara pulled out a magical moment for the home side with a thunderous long-range strike.

It took a screamer for Aston Villa to break down a resilient Wolves defence 🚀

And unfortunately that would be the only goal to separate the two sides. Despite the loss, Martin Keown was left impressed with Wolves.

Wolves lost the West Midlands derby against Aston Villa, but they did come out of the game with some confidence.

Rob Edwards picked out four things he was extremely happy with, and that will be a boost for the head coach.

Additionally, Marc Albrighton praised the Wolves’ defence for making things difficult for Villa, and that is two weeks in a row that the Wanderers have received such praise.

Now, Martin Keown has joined the round of positivity for Wolves after he watched their match against the Villans.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Keown said, “I did see signs against Aston Villa. I think Larsen at the top of the team has got good movement. He caused Konsa one or two problems in his movement, nearly got in, and had a goal disallowed.

“It was just the odd goal that they lost by and they were in this game all the way through. That would have been encouraging for the manager.

The former footballer turned pundit continued on to say that he felt that Wolves were starting to have an identity.

He stated, “They were passing it with little short one- and two-touch passing. Arias, the right winger, and the right-wing back looked not bad on one side, and Wolfe on the other, so I could see a semblance of play coming together.”

Now, the test for Rob Edwards will be to get his side playing exactly the same, but this time being more ruthless in front of goal.

More of the same against Nottingham Forest

Next up is a tricky test against Nottingham Forest, and the Old Gold must produce more of the same.

With all the talk of the lack of quality in the squad, the very least the players can do is show the same heart and determination as they did against Aston Villa.

Rob Edwards will be pushing his team on, and if they had any clinical edge about them, they could have come back from Villa Park with a win.

If Wolves are doomed for relegation, as it looks at the moment, then they must at least not go down without a fight.
