Marshall Munetsi has tended to divide opinion at Wolves since he arrived at the club – but he will surely have most fans on his side with the answer he gave to a question about football rule changes.
Marshall Munetsi has again been a fairly prominent figure for Wolves this season, picking up where he left off last term.
So far, the Zimbabwe international has made eight appearances for a total of 600 minutes, which means he’s in the top five most used Wolves players so far.
In recent weeks Munetsi has put in some decent performances for Wolves, and has also chipped in with a couple of goals – against Everton in the Carabao Cup and then Brighton before the international break. Sadly he was not actually credited with that goal against Brighton though, after his superb strike hit the bar and went in off Bart Verbruggen’s back.
He’ll hope to continue his form once he’s back from Zimbabwe duty.
But before he headed out to join the national team, Munetsi and a few other players shared one thing they would change in football if they could.
Marshall Munetsi shares his one football rule change

If there is one thing that has annoyed Wolves fans more than anything over the last few years, it is VAR.
After it debuted at the 2018 World Cup, the Video Assistant Referee was then rolled out to domestic leagues, and it landed in the Premier League at the start of the 2019/20 season.
Since its inception, VAR has courted controversy, mainly with the way it has been applied.
Wolves have been on the receiving end of some very poor VAR decisions, including:
- Wolves not awarded penalty after Andre Onana clattered into Sasa Kalajdzic (August 2023)
- Penalty awarded to Luton Town against Wolves and not overturned (September 2023)
- Penalty awarded to Newcastle United for ‘foul’ by Hwang Hee-chan on Fabian Schar (October 2023)
- Penalty awarded to Sheffield United for ‘foul’ by Fabio Silva on George Baldock (November 2023)
- Penalty awarded to Fulham for ‘foul’ by Nelson Semedo on Tom Cairney (November 2023)
- Carlos Vinicius not sent off for Fulham following apparent headbutt on Max Kilman (November 2023)
Munetsi appeared in Wolves’ latest video, which features players being asked for one thing they would change about football.
And he answered: “I think I would remove VAR.
“Because it takes away the joy now these days when you score a goal, so yeah.”
Munetsi’s answer is likely to strike a chord with the most Wolves fans, who have watched their side get done over so often.
Wolves have tried to get rid of VAR
You will be hard-pressed to find someone who is associated with Wolves that is a fan of VAR.
It has not been good for the club since its inception, and Wolves famously tabled a motion for the removal of VAR in 2024.
Wanderers needed the support of 13 other clubs to get it scrapped.
But all 19 other clubs voted in favour of keeping VAR, wanting it to be improved.
