Marshall Munetsi joined Wolves in January 2025 and the expectation was for the Zimbabwean to play in midfield.
However, Vitor Pereira has often used the player as part of his attacking set-up.
Jorgen Strand Larsen has admitted he enjoys playing alongside Munetsi, but the 29-year-old has been failing to impress recently.
Stats show Munetsi works hard, but when it comes to on-the-ball actions, the player leaves a lot to be desired.
Vitor Pereira clearly favours Munetsi, and now the midfielder turned attacker has provided a reason behind his positional change at Molineux.
Marshall Munetsi says he plays in Wolves’ attack to reduce goals conceded

While away on international break, Marshall Munetsi has provided an insight into his move to Wolves and why Vitor Pereira plays him in attack.
The former Stade Reims man was speaking on the Mike Morton Talks Football YouTube channel, and said, ‘I did play sometimes at Reims as a number 10 and I was able to score a lot of goals. That was something we discussed with the manager Vitor Pereira at Wolves.’
He goes on to talk about it in more detail stating, ‘He thought with my physique and also my ball poaching attributes that I do have, it was going to help the team.’
‘Especially because he wanted to press very high and considering the team was conceding a lot of goals, so we actually played with four midfielders.’
Wolves did concede less with Marshall Munetsi playing in attack
Marshall Munetsi started 12 games as either a centre-forward or as one of the attacking midfielders last season.
In those games, Wolves were conceding at a rate of 0.9 goals per match. In the time Vitor Pereira was made head coach and Munetsi signed, Wolves were conceding at a rate of 1.5 goals per match.
The data shows there was method to Vitor Pereira’s choices, but this season so far, it isn’t working out.
Wolves have conceded eight goals in the opening three fixtures, and that is with Munetsi playing in that attacking role.

The Portuguese manager found an unlikely solution to shoring up the defence last season, and he may have to find another solution now.
