Marshall Munetsi explains how he’s adapted to the Premier League at Wolves, reveals three key points

Wolves midfielder Marshall Munetsi has hit the ground running at Molineux since completing his transfer in the January window.

Vitor Pereira captured Munetsi to bolster his midfield, the Zimbabwe international joining from Stade Reims for around £16 million.

The 28-year-old has since appeared five times in the Premier League, making an impact as an advanced midfielder, deployed just behind the front man.

From this position, he’s contributed in the final third, assisting in the win over Bournemouth, with Munetsi scoring his first goal against Everton.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of months for the midfield powerhouse and Wolves supporters will be pleased with how he’s adapted to life at Molineux.

How Marshall Munetsi has adapted to the Premier League

Moving to a new club midway through the season is never easy and players will often struggle to get to grips with their new surroundings.

Munetsi was joined by Reims teammate Emmanuel Agbadou in January, and this has helped him settle into his new home.

But that isn’t the only reason he’s been able to hit the ground running, citing his early career experience as a major factor towards his success.

“When you’re young there’s so many things that you forget and that you underestimate or you under-appreciate,” Munetsi told the E&S.

“There’s mistakes and things that you’ve done previously in your past but now with that experience you know when to go forward, you know when to stay, you know when to do certain things. Experiences comes, like a fine wine. The older, the better.

“I was really enjoying my football in France so I think moving at this time really gave me an advantage so I don’t have to struggle when getting into a new environment.”

Munetsi then listed three reasons why he’s flourished in the Premier League, including how to look after his body and manage the rollercoaster of emotions.

“I know how to handle myself, how to manage my body, how to manage the failure and the ups and downs of football,” he added.

Munetsi’s calmness has been welcomed in relegation battle

In recent weeks, Wolves have managed to pull away from the immediate threat of relegation, creating a healthy nine-point gap between them and Ipswich Town in 18th place.

A draw against Everton and a win over Southampton have helped, with Wolves fans feeling they’re now safe from relegation.

However, a huge factor towards those results has been the impact of Munetsi, whose calmness off the pitch has had a positive influence on the dressing room.

“I’m a very calm person,” Munetsi said. “I always believe that you will fail at times but it’s always about how you bounce back from all those failures.

“I’m always a calm person so I don’t really show those emotions but I always try to do better by watching the videos and analysing what I’m doing right and what I’m doing wrong.

“When you are calm, you make better decisions. In football, you have games where you win and you celebrate and you have games that you lose and you really look deeper into yourself at how you can be better.”
