Mario Lemina thinks £60k-a-week Wolves teammate channelled Zinedine Zidane v Brighton

Brighton 0-0 Wolves will probably not live too long in the memory, but there was one moment in the game that made a few people gasp.

Gary O’Neil‘s side made it six games unbeaten in all competitions with a hard-fought draw at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton dominated the ball, but Wolves had the better chances on the counter-attack through the likes of Matheus Cunha, Pedro Neto and Pablo Sarabia.

In the end, Wanderers might have nicked a win but the finishing just wasn’t quite as good as it has been in previous games.

It was not the worst watch, but it’s arguably not a game that fans of either club will remember come the end of the season – but at least Matheus Cunha can add to his personal season compilation highlights…

At this point, we all know that Cunha is brilliant at picking the ball up deep, turning and then driving towards goal.

It is one of his best qualities, with players often unable to match him for pace and when they do get near him, he’s able to shove them away.

His ball-carrying is superb, which is why O’Neil is keen to get him into more of a free role and sign an actual striker this month.

In the first-half against Brighton, there was a moment where Toti Gomes clipped a ball down the left wing for Cunha, who was being tightly marked by Jan Paul van Hecke.

It was a difficult ball to deal with but Cunha just glanced the ball off his knee and turned van Hecke in an instant, and then raced away from Lewis Dunk who tried to cover.

Cunha – who was one of four Wolves players picked out by Roberto De Zerbi ahead of the game – then tried to find Pedro Neto with a low cross, but his weak foot let him down a bit and the ball was claimed by goalkeeper Jason Steele.

The attack may have petered out, but it was a glorious piece of skill from Cunha, and it really impressed Mario Lemina, who reacted to the clip on Instagram by branding the Brazilian ‘Zidane’ in the comments.

Cunha has star quality

It was a brilliant piece of play from Cunha and just a shame about the final ball.

The fact that he is capable of making things happen when there doesn’t seem to be any imminent danger for the opposition is really encouraging for Wolves.

The £60,000-a-week star is capable of moments of magic, and it pays to have players like this in the team.

Sometimes it can be hard to break teams down, but there is always a chance of getting points when you have players who can produce in the most unexpected positions.

Cunha’s turn against Brighton didn’t ultimately lead to anything, but you can see with him that the potential is there.
