Mario Lemina sends message on Instagram after emotional reaction to Wolves’ defeat against Liverpool

Wolves captain Mario Lemina has sent a message to supporters, after he gave an emotional reaction to yesterday’s defeat to Liverpool.

Wanderers were condemned to their fifth defeat in six games at Molineux.

Gary O’Neil‘s side lost 2-1 against the Reds, and are bottom of the Premier League table.

Ibrahima Konate had given Liverpool the lead just before half-time but Wolves got back level in the second-half through Rayan Ait-Nouri after a defensive mix-up.

But just moments later, Mo Salah put Liverpool back ahead from the penalty spot, after Nelson Semedo had fouled Diogo Jota in the area.

After the game, TV cameras focused on Mario Lemina, who was particularly emotional after the full-time whistle had gone – and the skipper has now broken his silence after that reaction.

Saturday’s defeat to Liverpool was another frustrating day for Wolves fans.

Wolves were constantly trying to play pretty football, but never really looked likely to break the Liverpool defence down.

Wolves did score, but Ait-Nouri’s goal was a real gift.

There was just too much passing for passing’s sake, and not enough proper pressure being applied, with Gary Neville slating Wolves’ approach as the game was petering out.

Lemina’s reaction at full-time was interesting.

The Gabon international buried his face under his shirt and was very emotional. There was collective disappointment, but Lemina seemed to really feel the defeat a lot more than his teammates.

Lemina has now sent a message to fans on social media about the game, saying: “My pain is not personal. This group, this club, all the people around the club deserve much better than that.

“We are not gonna give up! 100%. I know well my brothers. We are fully committed to change the future. Big challenge ahead of us.”

Lemina clearly cares deeply

Some have been critical of Lemina for his reaction after losing to Liverpool.

But if anything, it showed that he cares a huge amount about Wolves and what O’Neil is trying to do, and feels big responsibility as captain.

He arguably had one of his worst games against Liverpool and perhaps he was also thinking a bit about that as well as the result and Wolves’ current predicament.

There is no doubt that he will have been hurting immensely after yesterday’s defeat, but fans can be assured that he’ll keep plugging away, and he will keep trying to take responsibility.

He has suffered relegation before, when he had a loan spell with Fulham in 2020/21.

So he knows what that feeling is like and will be determined not to experience it again.
