Mario Lemina sends heartfelt message to Wolves teammate after his awful recent setback

Mario Lemina has shown his leadership once more, by sending a public message of support to one of his Wolves teammates who has just suffered a cruel setback.

Lemina was named the new club captain at Molineux ahead of the recent pre-season friendly with West Ham United, and it is a decision that has gone down very well with the fanbase.

Lemina was voted the Supporters’ Player of Season for 2023/24. Arguably, that had just as much to do with his leadership as it did with his performances.

The midfielder is an avid user of Instagram and is always putting out supportive messages. Even after Wolves have lost games.

He is also a big supporter of his teammates, and yesterday he had a message of support for Enso Gonzalez following his awful injury setback.

There have been a number of Wolves players who have suffered ACL injuries in recent years.

Former wing-back Jonny Castro Otto suffered two during his time at Molineux.

Sasa Kalajdzic has also suffered two at Wolves, with his first coming on his debut just days after making his move to the club from Stuttgart.

Winger Chiquinho also suffered one in a behind-closed-doors friendly match against Burnley in 2022.

And now, Enso Gonzalez is the latest player to suffer a serious knee injury. He did it while playing for Paraguay against Israel at the Olympics, being stretchered off after 14 minutes.

An early claim was made that Gonzalez could be looking at around six months out. The player is due for surgery.

It is a terrible setback for Gonzalez, who will have been hoping for a much more productive season than he had in 2023/24. The youngster recently admitted that he struggled at times.

Following the news of his injury, new Wolves captain Lemina took to social media to send a message to the starlet, sharing Wolves’ post on Instagram and writing ‘Best recovery lil brother’.

A long road ahead for Gonzalez

News of Gonzalez suffering an ACL injury prompted a big show of sympathy from the supporters on social media, and rightly so. It really is awful news for the youngster.

Gonzalez was brought in from Libertad last summer and only managed to make one cameo appearance in his debut season.

It didn’t quite happen for him, and he will have been so determined to try and kick on in 2024/25, whether that was at Wolves or out on loan somewhere.

He will now be missing for at least half of the coming season, and who knows how this injury might affect him when he comes back.

It is just an awful blow for a player with exciting potential. Hopefully, he has a good support system in place, and there is no doubt that he’ll get the from the likes of captain Lemina, and Kalajdzic and Chiquinho who are all too familiar with this kind of thing.
