Mario Lemina reveals he was upset not to join Wolves four years ago

Mario Lemina has given his first interview with Wolves – and revealed he was actually upset not to join the club four years ago.

The race was on for Wolves to get Lemina signed, and then registered in time to be a part of the matchday squad.

Luckily, everything went smoothly, and the Gabon international was named on the bench for yesterday’s game.

Julen Lopetegui handed him around 20 minutes, and he will now be looking to try and feature more.

At the moment Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes and Joao Moutinho are the first choices. But games are coming thick and fast, and there could be injuries and suspensions. Lemina will need to be ready to come in, and he’s looking to make an impression early doors.

Lemina spoke to Wolves presenter Gemma Frith after his debut yesterday.

The pair walked the touchline at Molineux, and the 29-year-old spoke about what a busy day he had on Friday.

And at one point he actually revealed he had talks with Wolves four years ago.

He said (via Wolves official YouTube): “Four years ago I was talking with them. It didn’t happen and I was really upset about it because I wanted to join. I loved everything here… apart from the weather!

“I love everything, the characters, the players with a lot of personality and that’s what I like. I’ve seen them play a lot of times with good strikers, good midfielders, good defenders, I just like it.”

Sky Sports reported in 2019 that Wolves had interest in Lemina when he was at Southampton.

Mario Lemina claim is interesting, he’s clearly very happy to sign for Wolves

It is interesting to hear this from Lemina.

It is unclear why the proposed move didn’t happen back in 2019. But clearly Lemina was disappointed it didn’t come to fruition.

Seemingly, he has kept his eye on the club’s progress and seen how the team plays. And now he’s finally been able to get his move to Molineux.

The comments are sure to go down well with Wolves fans.

If he wanted the move so long ago, there’s a good chance he will be absolutely raring to show what he can do.
