Mario Lemina reacts when asked at Compton about Yerson Mosquera’s injury for Wolves

Wolves captain Mario Lemina has spoken at Compton Park after learning of the news about Yerson Mosquera.

Wolves fans were left gutted on Tuesday as the club finally provided an update on the Colombia after he was stretchered off against Aston Villa.

Mosquera has damaged both his ACL and MCL, and will undergo surgery. The likelihood is that he will not play again this season.

It is awful news, as Mosquera had made a bright start to the new season after working his way back into the first-team picture.

He had suffered a serious hamstring injury shortly after joining the club in 2021, and after recovering he went on loan to FC Cincinnati and Villarreal.

Mosquera is now set for another lengthy lay-off – and Lemina has given his thoughts.

Mosquera has a long road ahead of him to get back playing again.

The Colombia international will not be short of company in the treatment room at Compton though.

Sasa Kalajdzic is in there are the moment after suffering the third ACL injury of his career earlier this year while out on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The striker will undoubtedly be a big help to Mosquera during this tough time.

Enso Gonzalez suffered a serious knee injury while on duty with Paraguay at the Olympiacs.

And midfielder Boubacar Traore will also be around. He suffered a knee injury in the Carabao Cup game against Burnley, although that was not as severe as the others.

The Wolves players were called to Compton earlier this week for their official team photo, and it was there that Lemina reacted to the news about Mosquera.

He said (via Wolves Express): “It’s really hard. He’s been amazing since he came back from his loan. He was really confident in his way to play. Really hard, strong defensively, good on the ball. We are going to miss him. We wish him the best recovery ever.

“We are going to be around him. He’s a positive guy and he’s going to stay the same.

“Of course he’s going to have ups and downs. He’s been doing really well and this was his moment to play for Wolves. It is what it is, life is like that, football journeys are like that as well.

“He needs to keep on going in his hard work and try to get fit as soon as possible, and don’t rush himself as well. It’s a tough and really hard injury.”

Lemina was also asked about how Mosquera has seemed since learning of how bad his injury is.

He added: “He’s showing smiles and stuff, but we all know that he’s frustrated because he knows how important he was for the team. Now it’s about us, trying to make him happy every day, to make him part of the group even if he can’t play. He knows we want him back as soon as possible.”

Mosquera will be well-supported

It is a cruel blow for Mosquera, especially since he has already missed so much football since he first signed for Wolves with that hamstring injury.

He had really started to look the part in the Premier League, and his partnership with Craig Dawson had been getting better.

But he will not have the chance to play for a while now, and it will be a tough period for him.

But Lemina spoke well at Compton. There is no doubt that the players and people who work at Compton are all like family, and Mosquera will be rallied around and supported all the way to get back as quickly as possible.
