Wolves will be losing players to AFCON this month and last night Cameroon announced their squad for the tournament – but there was no place for Jackson Tchatchoua.
The 25th tournament gets underway on December 21, with games taking place across six different host cities.
It is something that will affect Wolves significantly, with a number of players in the squad hailing from African countries.
It is now time for nations to start announcing their official squads for the tournament, and last night Cameroon put out their 28-man squad.
And there is a big surprise, because there Wolves full-back Jackson Tchatchoua has been omitted.
Jackson Tchatchoua left out of Cameroon’s AFCON squad

Jackson Tchatchoua was expected to be one of five players from the Wolves squad to head out to the AFCON tournament.
But in what is a big surprise, he has actually been omitted from the squad.
Tchatchoua has been a mainstay for Cameroon in recent times, playing the vast majority of minutes in their World Cup qualification campaign.
He has also featured heavily in their AFCON qualification campaign.
Tchatchoua misses out for Cameroon! ❌
But he has fallen at the final hurdle – and there has been real chaos in the Cameroon camp.
On the same day as the squad was announced, Cameroon’s federation declared that manager Marc Brys had been sacked. Brys was said to have had a turbulent relationship with Samuel Eto’o, who is now the president of FECAFOOT.
Brys has been replaced by David Pagou, who had only become manager of Cameroonian side Coton Sport FC on September 22.
Tchatchoua – who was clocked as the fastest player in the Premier League earlier this season – is not the only high profile omission, with the likes of Andre Onana, Vincent Aboubakar, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting also missing out.
Significant news for Rob Edwards at Wolves
So Tchatchoua will not be leaving the Wolves camp to go to AFCON, which is really something that is unforeseen.
It has to be bitterly disappointing for Tchatchoua. Yes, he hasn’t been in the best form at Wolves, but there was no denying he was a prominent player in Cameroon’s starting XI.
To miss out will be a personal regret. But back at Wolves, Rob Edwards may be quietly pleased.
The upcoming AFCON tournament could affect Wolves significantly 🤔
Wolves’ squad will be losing other players, so it will be good to have that cover. And Tchatchoua will be able to get his head down and hopefully improve his form in an old gold shirt.
Edwards needs more from Tchatchoua, who has the potential to be much more dangerous than he has been so far.
