The search for Wolves’ next manager is heating up, with plenty of progress made in the 24 hours since Vitor Pereira was sacked.
Wolves have been linked with a number of options, and the jury is out on who fans want to see come in for an attempt at a Great Escape.
It was thought another Portuguese manager could be on the cards, but Sporting Lisbon’s Rui Borges has ruled out a Wolves move.
The Gary O’Neil links emerged rather early on Sunday which was baffling to some, and downright ridiculous to others. But that’s exactly who Wolves are lining up as successor.

Gary O’Neil the frontrunner for Wolves job as positive talks are held
Your eyes are not deceiving you. Wolves have held a number of talks with O’Neil, who was replaced by Vitor Pereira less than a year ago.
He endured a similarly dismal start to the season, but lasted a bit longer, getting his marching orders in mid-December. It would appear he’s the favourite for the job.
Molineux News’ transfer expert Graeme Bailey said: “I’m told that, barring a late shock… it’s him. He has agreed to come back.”
Until pen is put to paper, anything can happen, but he is firmly in the lead for the appointment.
O’Neil was a disaster towards the end of his spell at Wolves, and no one lamented his departure. But Fosun and Jeff Shi think he deserves another bite at the cherry.
Gary O’Neil to Wolves feels like a recipe for disaster
Cast your mind back to last season. O’Neil repeatedly blamed the Wolves squad’s quality for the run of bad results.
Well, however bad that squad was, the current edition is worse.
Wolves have lost Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo, with none of the new signings coming close to their quality.
If O’Neil is the choice, he will get the backing of the Wolves support, but it has to be said — this feels like that kind of Fosun decision that will be looked back on a year from now as the wrong call.
There’s still time for a twist in the tale, but as it stands, O’Neil looks like making his Molineux comeback.
