Wolves have been trying to sign star forward Matheus Cunha down to a new contract during the January transfer window, and they could have finally made a breakthrough.
Cunha has been in remarkable form for the Old Gold this term, returning an impressive 10 goals and four assists in 19 Premier League appearances.
But, whilst supporters have been able to celebrate the Brazilian’s meteoric rise, it does come with a risk as Arsenal are huge admirers of Cunha among many other clubs.
Wolves want to hand the 25-year-old a new contract as they know how invaluable he is in the battle for survival, although it isn’t simple to negotiate.
On Tuesday, Cunha was said to be considering his options before committing to a new contract, but now he’s seemingly made his decision and it’s excellent news.

Matheus Cunha verbally agrees new Wolves contract
According to GiveMeSport, the Brazilian forward has verbally agreed to a new contract at Molineux while David Ornstein revealed that Cunha’s new contract will span four years.
This is huge news for Wolves, who may have persuaded the forward to extend his contract by two years, with his current one expiring in 2027.
Cunha, who is currently banned by the FA for violent conduct from the loss against Ipswich, will serve the final game of his ban this weekend as Vitor Pereira’s men head to Bristol City in the FA Cup.
Perhaps with this latest news, the Wanderers will arrive at Ashton Gate with a spring in their step, although there is one scenario that could see their world come crashing down.
Wolves have inserted £45m relegation release clause in Cunha’s contract
The same report has also suggested that a £45 million relegation release clause has been inserted into the Brazilian’s contract.
So, in the event Wolves are relegated from the Premier League, clubs could land him for a cut-price fee.
At this stage, there is a decent chance of that happening, with Pereira’s side level on points with 18th-place Ipswich Town.

However, with Wolves close to signing centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou along with many other players, the Old Gold should have enough quality to stay in the top flight.
Supporters will now be waiting patiently to see their 10-goal forward put pen to paper on a new deal, in a potentially huge boost in the fight for survival.
