Craig Dawson gave his thoughts on Wolves’ 2-2 draw with Newcastle United – and branded the assist by Toti Gomes for Hwang Hee-chan’s goal ‘magic’.
Wolves made it five games unbeaten in the Premier League with a hard-fought performance against the Magpies. The conditions were tough, but Wanderers used the ball well at times and might have come away with three points had it not been for some more questionable officiating.
In the first-half, Hwang was adjudged to have fouled Fabian Schar. But replays showed he stopped short of kicking the defender, who initiated contact with the South Korean.
The on-field decision was somehow not overturned by VAR. And Callum Wilson dispatched the spot-kick to make it 2-1.
But Hwang would continue his fine goalscoring form of late with a terrific goal, and one that left Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer wowed on Match of the Day.
After the game, Dawson moved to praise the man who helped make it possible…
Craig Dawson wowed by Toti Gomes after his brilliant assist for Hwang Hee-chan in Wolves vs Newcastle
Dawson, who was superb himself against Newcastle, was left really impressed by the work Toti did just before Hwang scored.
The centre-back found himself on the right wing, and danced his way between two players. He then slipped Hwang in with a perfect through ball.

Hwang then cut inside, leaving Dan Burn sprawling, and finished coolly at the near post.
It was a cracking goal, and Dawson said of his fellow defender Toti (Wolves official): “Two brilliant goals. Set plays are going to be massively important for us. The second goal shows the quality we’ve got going forward with Toti’s little bit of magic and then Channy’s doing unbelievably well at the minute so hopefully that continues.”
That was the first time Toti had ever assisted a goal for Wolves. And he probably won’t make too many better.
His performance was also lapped up by former Wolves captain Conor Coady, who branded him ‘sensational’.
Toti Gomes is clearly more than just a solid defender
The perception of Toti since he came into Wolves’ first-team squad has been that he is a really solid and dependable defender.
But at this point, it’s clear he does have a bit of technical quality about him too. The way he went past the two Newcastle players was impressive, and he then had the vision to find Hwang and play the pass perfectly.
The 24-year-old is in a really good moment right now and hopefully it will continue.
He has worked really hard to earn his starting spot. And Wolves definitely look like a better outfit with him in the team. Certainly, his impact has been undeniable, with Wolves having picked up eight points across the last five games he’s started.
