Wolves fans were offered the chance to get to know Joao Gomes better this week as the club dropped a documentary about the player’s journey to Molineux.
Wanderers have been following the Brazilian behind the scenes and on Monday night, the club released ‘Joao Gomes: The Pitbull’ across their social media channels.
The video features footage from Gomes‘ younger days, and the player speaks about how he came to play for Wanderers.
Gomes spoke about how much Matheus Cunha has helped him since being at the club.
He also heavily praised manager Gary O’Neil, who he says even worries about him more than some of his own family.
It is a documentary, Gomes also touches on something that has not made his life easy: his stammer.

Some fans had already known about Gomes having a stammer, but the player goes into a little more detail about it in the new documentary.
As a result of this, the Brazilian has had to face social challenges that most people never even have to think about.
When asked how it has affected him throughout his life, Gomes says: It used to be something that saddened me, and kind of blocked me, you know?
“I’ve always wanted to express myself, but I felt stuck and inferior.
“Nowadays I’m much more at peace with it and accept myself a lot more, so I have more determination to speak out and express myself.
“I obviously take longer to communicate, but that’s something people have to respect.”
Gomes then goes on to talk about O’Neil and how understanding he has been. He credits the head coach with giving him a lot of confidence at Molineux.
The documentary then features footage from a training session last season of O’Neil and Gomes talking tactics, and it is great to see the player expressing himself freely and confidently.
Following the release of the documentary, fans heaped praise on Gomes for shining the spotlight on his stammer, and he also received a heartwarming message from his international teammate Lucas Paqueta.
Taking to his Instagram Story, Paqueta wrote a 12-word message to the Wolves maestro which translates to: “You are different my brother! We look up to you. Very Much.”
Gomes is an inspiration
It is lovely to see Paqueta reacting to the documentary that Wolves have done about Gomes, and to an issue that his friend has had to deal with throughout his life.
It has to be said, Gomes really is an inspiration. His own positive outlook on his stammer now is bound to help a lot of people who may be feeling down.
He has not let his stammer define him, and has made a hugely successful career for himself and he deserves all the praise on the world for that.
Many children who have the same dream will take huge inspiration from his journey.
