Lopetegui says Hwang Hee-chan will be out for several weeks after picking up injury against Liverpool

Hwang Hee-chan is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury against Liverpool – and Julen Lopetegui expects him to be out for weeks.

The South Korean was forced to come off in the 3-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday.

Hwang had made a big contribution in the game, forcing the opening own goal by Joel Matip.

But just before half-time, the 27-year-old went off with a hamstring injury.

After the game, Lopetegui gave an update on the situation, and suggested it might be a little while before we see Hwang back playing again.

He said (Express & Star): “It was a pity to lose Hee-chan with a hamstring injury. For a lot of weeks we are going to lose him, that’s why I highlight the team.”

It is a hugely frustrating moment for Hwang, who has been much improved since Lopetegui came in.

Hwang picked up a hamstring injury last season just before Christmas, and he was on the sidelines for around two months.

After coming back from that injury, Hwang then really struggled to find form.

Wolves officials will be hoping that the same thing won’t happen this time, and that he can come back stronger.

Lopetegui will now pick from Adama Traore, Daniel Podence, Pablo Sarabia and Pedro Neto to play in the wide positions.

Neto is going to be back in full training, and should soon be available for selection.

A blow for Wolves as Hwang picks up hamstring injury, but Pedro Neto return is timely

It is a real shame for Hwang, especially given the improvements he’s made recently.

He’s been someone Lopetegui has liked using since he came to the club.

But the Spaniard will now be without him for a little while.

But Wolves still have some great options to play out wide, and the return of Pedro Neto is very timely.

The Portuguese winger will be itching to play again after being sidelined since October, and he will want to get off to a great start under Lopetegui having struggled before his injury.
