Lopetegui praises Adama Traore and wants him to sign new Wolves deal

Julen Lopetegui is hopeful Adama Traore will make a major U-turn on his contract situation and stay at Wolves beyond next summer, which is when the star’s current deal expires.

The winger is into the final year of his contract at Molineux, and the feeling has been that he will see it out and then move on.

Traore has previously been offered fresh terms by Wolves.

But he has not wanted to extend.

The star could well depart next year as a free agent, after what will have been five years at the club.

But Lopetegui has now joined the club, which potentially could change the picture.

Lopetegui is a big fan of Traore, and has suggested he’d be happy to see him extend. He said (via Shropshire Star): “Adama is our player. I’ve known him since he was 14 at Barcelona, he is stronger now!

“I know he has not finished the contract but the most important thing is he works hard here until June. After that, I don’t know what is going to happen. Of course, I would be very happy if he was here.”

Recently, Traore was again linked with a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The north London giants are long-term admirers of the explosive forward, and will surely have an eye on his situtation ahead of the January window.

Adama Traore signing new Wolves deal still feels unlikely, but you never know with Lopetegui factor

Traore has been reluctant to sign a new deal at Wolves for quite a while now.

It does appear that he is perhaps ready for a new chapter. Given his age and the fact his peak years are approaching, it’d be no surprise if he did move on.

But the arrival of Lopetegui might be something that encourages him to think twice.

If Lopetegui can get the very best out of Traore, he might consider extending.

Lopetegui is a top coach and is known for developing players. If Traore feels the love from him and sees his game dramatically improve, there’s potential for him to extend.

It’s all ifs, buts and maybes at the moment. But there appears to be a great mutual respect between the pair, and you can never say never.
