Lopetegui confirms the contract he has at Wolves in first press conference

Julen Lopetegui has been speaking at his first press conference as Wolves manager today.

The Spaniard has appeared before the media for the first time, after attending Molineux at the weekend for Wolves’ game with Arsenal.

His presence in the stands couldn’t quite inspire the players to a positive result, with the Gunners running out 2-0 winners.

Martin Odegaard scored twice for the visitors. The game could perhaps have panned out differently had Goncalo Guedes not been flagged offside early on before he was fouled in the penalty area by William Saliba.

Lopetegui has a big job on his hands.

It has been an awful start to the new season, with just eight goals scored in the first 15 Premier League games.

But fans will be optimistic he can turn things around given his pedigree.

One thing many Wolves fans have been keen to know since he was confirmed as the new manager is how long his contract is.

Information on that has been thin on the ground, with some wondering if he has a contract until the end of the season, so that if Wolves are relegated he would just leave.

But Lopetegui has confirmed to reporters today that his contract for Molineux is for three years (via Sky Sports News).

So Lopetegui has been given a three-year contract.

That is encouraging to hear, and suggests he is confident about turning things around and then turning Wolves into a competitive Premier League outfit again.

That said, there could always be a clause that would allow Lopetegui to leave if the club was relegated next year.

But he is hardly going to inform reporters about that, if it exists, in a press conference.
