Julen Lopetegui has been speaking about Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, and has challenged the youngster to demand more from himself now in order to shape himself for the future.
The Brazilian youngster has made a real impression since singing for the club for £15 million in January.
Gomes arrived at Molineux as a hugely popular figure for the way he snubbed the advances of Lyon.
Gomes was wanted by the French outfit who had come in with a higher offer than Wolves.
But he only ever wanted to come to Molineux, and it was his stance that ultimately helped the move come to fruition.
Gomes has made nine appearances so far for Wolves.
He recently started games against Chelsea and Brentford and was absolutely fantastic in the middle of the park with Mario Lemina.
It is clear he is a player with huge potential, and Wolves are supposedly extremely excited about him.
Lopetegui has suggested the South American needs to demand as much from himself now as he possibly can, so that he can realise this potential.
And the manager has spoken about the need for strong communication, with Gomes currently learning English.
He said (Express & Star): “It depends on him. You are talking about the future, but the future only depends on the present.
“You have to put your focus on the present and above all be ready and be able to overcome the bad moments.
“In football you will have a lot of bad moments and it depends on your answer, your character and your personality.
“Being demanding of yourself is very important. You can go far, but it depends.
“It’s important to know, not only the football, but to talk English, which for me is important, and involve yourself in the culture of the country. He’s improving of course, and knows the demand that you have in England.
“He is trying to do that and it will be a good thing for him.”
The Express & Star write that Gomes has a stammer speech impediment, and is persevering with his transition at the club.
Joao Gomes stands to become another Ruben Neves-like figure at Wolves
It is good to see that Gomes is bringing his English up to scratch as that will obviously help him a lot during his time at the club.
It has been a brilliant start for Gomes at Molineux.
He really does look a top prospect, and he will certainly become a regular in the team eventually.
Lopetegui is right, he must demand a lot from himself now in order to shape himself for the future.
Potentially, he could become the next Ruben Neves at the club.
Not necessarily as a player similar to him, but more in terms of being a figure that is idolised.
