Wolves had a night to remember at Molineux on Wednesday as the Old Gold progressed into the quarter-final of the FA Cup with a win over Brighton, a fixture that saw Tommy Doyle crowned man of the match.
Wolves experienced a night of joy in the FA Cup, seeing off Premier League rivals Brighton to progress into the quarter-finals.
It was far from an attractive performance from the Old Gold, who took the lead after just two minutes thanks to the combination of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Mario Lemina.
The Gabon international’s goal was enough to give Gary O’Neil’s side the win on the night, with one player standing out from the rest in what was a well-fought contest at Molineux.
Tommy Doyle was man of the match against Brighton
As detailed last night, Tommy Doyle was crowned the best player on the pitch, earning high praise from commentator Rachel Brown-Finnish as he “didn’t put a foot wrong”.
Brown-Finnish’s lauding of the 22-year-old’s display was echoed by his statistics on the night, where he showcased just how rounded his game can be in midfield.
As per Sofascore, the Englishman won 100% of his ground duels, as well as making one key pass, four tackles and three clearances to power Wolves towards the win.
After falling out of favour in O’Neil’s favoured XI due to how the manager likes to set up his midfield, Doyle issued the perfect response when given the chance to start, with his performance applauded by a host of his peers.

How players have reacted to Tommy Doyle’s performance
Following the fixture, the Manchester City loanee took to Instagram to share his delight with Wolves’ win, captioning his post ‘Quarter-final bound’ and showing off his well-deserved man of the match award.
The 22-year-old’s comments were flooded with support from not only his Molineux teammates and Wolves fans but some fellow Premier League stars as well.
Doyle’s England U23 teammates and fellow Premier League players Anthony Gordon and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones left comments to express their delight with their friend’s performance.

Wolves captain Max Kilman, who was another top performer on the night, led the congratulations from the Old Gold camp, dubbing his teammate a “baller” in the comments.
Mario Lemina and Matheus Cunha were also among those from the club that reacted to the midfielder’s display
After the night that Doyle had against Brighton, O’Neil could be left with a decision to make over his selection ahead of the challenging trip to Newcastle United on Saturday, with the Englishman surely in contention to earn the right to start.
