Liam Keen reveals who he thinks is the ‘clear frontrunner’ for Wolves captaincy

One burning question heading into the new season is who Vitor Pereira will choose as Wolves captain. Wolves journalist Liam Keen has his say.

Now that Nelson Semedo has left Wolves, the role of captain lies vacant heading into the new campaign.

Semedo was a loyal servant for the Old Gold for five years before making a move away from Molineux. Vitor Pereira sat down to discuss Wolves’ future with Liam Keen this week, and made it clear that he wasn’t going to rush the captaincy decision.

But Keen thinks he knows where Vitor Pereira’s head is at.

Liam Keen names Toti Gomes as the ‘clear frontrunner’ to be Wolves captain

On the latest edition of the E&S Wolves podcast, Keen spoke on the decision facing the gaffer, saying: “Toti’s the clear frontrunner. We know that Vitor is taking a little bit of time to make that decision.

“But where we are right now is Toti is the frontrunner. I can’t see anyone else having it, if I’m honest.”

Toti Gomes was voted most underrated player at Molineux by his teammates, having made quite the impact in Wolves’ backline since getting a first-team opportunity in 2022.

Now 26, Keen and the players believe Toti is ready to take the next step and wear the armband for the Old Gold.

Toti Gomes has all the qualities to be a great Wolves captain

Since becoming a regular in the side, Toti has been admired by his teammates, shown a willingness to improve and care for those around him.

Toti pays attention to the young players coming through the ranks, recently praising Mateus Mane as someone to look at.

He has come to his teammates’ aid on numerous occasions, with Toti backing up Joao Gomes against Burnley just a few weeks ago. He doesn’t think twice about praising his Wolves teammates either, making it clear why he is so well-liked at the club.

Liam Keen seems to think the decision is as good as made, and he has reason to. By all appearances, Toti is leadership material, and no fans would be put out to see him first out of the tunnel the first day of the season against Man City.
