Liam Keen noticed one Wolves player doing something ‘very unlike him’ with ‘redemption’ claim made

One Wolves player is unexpectedly making the headlines for how he’s conducted himself in pre-season so far.

Several Wolves players will be eyeing redemption over the summer, with the start of the 2025/26 season in sight.

Already, there have been some surprising names emerging from pre-season, as the Old Gold put in the work during a training camp in Portugal.

Returning loanee Ki-Jana Hoever is one player to turn heads in pre-season, and for another player, improvement has been noticed away from the action.

Goncalo Guedes has surprised many in pre-season

Another who has been impressing in pre-season is Goncalo Guedes, which has come as quite a surprise to many.

Guedes has been linked with a move away from Wolves, a narrative that seems to arise year upon year since his transfer to the West Midlands in 2022.

Speaking on the E&S Wolves Podcast, journalists Liam Keen and Nathan Judah discussed Guedes, with utters of a ‘redemption’ heard.

“Redemption arc?” Judah asked Keen, prompting the Wolves expert to share what he’s seen from the Portuguese forward so far this summer.

“Let’s wait and see. It’s the happiest we’ve probably seen him, ever, which, to be fair, is not that hard because he’s normally a little bit [miserable].”

Guedes’ attitude has been spoken about before, but during Wolves’ pre-season training camp in Portugal, Keen noticed that the 28-year-old was displaying signs of a changed man.

“He was happy around training, smiley, did an interview with the club media, which is very unlike him.

“I would like to think if he can keep level-headed and be happy, he’s got something to offer next season; there’s no reason why there isn’t. But we also know, as is every summer, he’s always got a chance to leave. Let’s keep an eye.”

The validity of Guedes’ actions over the summer is questionable, as the forward finds himself in a rather rotten cycle at Wolves.

Bigger motive than ever to cash in on Guedes

Pereira has already revealed that Guedes is unhappy at Wolves, suggesting that the 28-year-old could move on for good this summer.

Such would make sense, as despite weakening the squad depth, it would boost the club in other areas.

Fosun want to address Wolves’ wage structure, noticing that the top end of salaries has become ‘bloated’ in recent years.

Guedes is Wolves’ top earner, picking up a weekly wage of £90k-a-week, more than any other current member of the team, as per Capology’s information.

Getting the forward off the books would be a step in the right direction, particularly as there are suitors out there for Guedes, who isn’t considered a starter at Wolves.
