Leeds United might have showed Wolves how to beat Burnley despite not scoring

Leeds United may have shown Wolves one thing they could capitalise on despite the Elland Road side failing to score.

Daniel Farke’s side lost 2-0 to the Clarets over the weekend in a fixture with possible implications for the relegation battle this season.

The Old Gold will then follow up on Sunday with another crucial game in the fight for survival when they host Burnley.

However, Leeds resorted to a tactic that was not fruitful for them, but it still created plenty of chances for them.

Leeds United created plenty against Burnley with crosses

When Leeds travelled to Turf Moor, Daniel Farke’s side tried to break down the resilient Burnley defence with crosses.

However, it would not end up working. In fact, the Whites put in 47 crosses into the box, the most by a team this season.

Burnley ultimately held out for a clean sheet, but Farke had the right tactic in mind.

Burnley have conceded six goals from crosses this season, 40% of their total goals conceded, although those have come against Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham

However, Leeds generated 2.63 xG against the Clarets, so they are clearly open to vulnerability from these situations.

The Elland Road side were unable to make it count, but that does not mean Wolves should not try the same.

Jorgen Strand Larsen and Tolu Arokodare are both tall, physical forwards, and playing both at the same time could be a way to break down Burnley.

Despite Leeds’ struggles, Burnley seem to give plenty of time for teams to put the ball into the box.

Crosses have been a big part of Wolves’ tactics this season

Wolves have tried a lot of crosses this season, and they lead the league in terms of successful attempts per match.

Throughout the season, they have 6.5 successful crosses per match and a success rate of 31.7%.

This percentage puts them in the top three for cross success.

Vitor Pereira should be bold against Burnley and start his two number nines up top. Having the likes of Hugo Bueno and Jackson Tchatchoua to feed in crosses could be the way to pick up a win.

However, they’ll need to get over their hump of being unclinical in front of goal.
