Lee Naylor suggests Wolves had a ‘brilliant’ player who showed up his teammates vs Man United

Lee Naylor felt Wolves did have one bright spark in the dismal defeat to Manchester United.

The Old Gold lost once again at Molineux, with United cruising to a 4-1 victory before a reduced home crowd.

Fans protested against owners Fosun last night, congregating outside the Billy Wright Stand before entering 15 minutes after kick-off.

And some chose to stay away entirely.

That meant those people were not subjected to yet another dreadful performance from Wolves, who will now officially be bottom at Christmas.

Despite another dismal evening though, Lee Naylor did feel one player in old gold was worthy of praise.

Unfortunately, Wolves lost Jean-Ricner Bellegarde to injury against United.

He had been Wolves’ best performer and had got his side back on level terms. But sadly the midfielder had to go off before the hour mark.

The man to replace him was Fer Lopez – and the Spaniard came in for praise from Wolves fans for his efforts.

He hadn’t played for weeks. But he came on and tried to be positive.

Speaking on Matchday Live Extra, Lee Naylor said: “Our midfielders are getting on the ball and not busting a gut to go forward.

“Fer Lopez – brilliant. That’s what he did. And I thought he committed Man United players. He was asking questions. That’s what you need to do as a player. Ask questions of your opposition. We didn’t ask enough questions today, I’m afraid.”

Rob Edwards must retain Lopez

It was good to see Lopez back playing last night, and his cameo was definitely positive.

The likes of Jhon Arias and Jorgen Strand Larsen were desperately poor once again, but Lopez did try to be positive after his introduction.

At the moment, Lopez is being linked with an exit from Wolves.

Apparently, Lopez is keen to rejoin Celta Vigo, with Wolves looking to loan him out in January.

But on the basis of last night, he’s not someone Rob Edwards should be allowing to leave.

He is obviously still raw. But Lopez needs a run in this team, because he has the creative potential to actually make a difference.
