Lee Naylor names the only Wolves player who actually did well against Brentford

Lee Naylor gave credit to Max Kilman after the defeat to Brentford, saying he was the only Wolves player who ‘wasn’t fazed by anything’.

Wanderers fell to a 2-0 loss against the Bees on Saturday, with Christian Norgaard and Ivan Toney getting the goals for the visitors.

It was a poor day at the office for Wolves, with mistakes leading to both goals.

It was disappointing for fans to witness such a performance, after the amazing result against Chelsea the weekend before, and Gary O’Neil will now try to get things back on track.

A lot of Wolves players fell short against Brentford, but former Molineux full-back Naylor did pick out Max Kilman as someone who did OK…

Saturday’s game with Brentford was Kilman’s 24 Premier League appearance of the season.

The 26-year-old has not missed a single minute for Wolves in the competition so far, and has been pretty solid since the turn of the year especially.

He was below his usual high standards on Saturday, as were most of his teammates, but Naylor believes he was one of the better players on a difficult day.

He said on Matchday Live Extra: “Kilman is probably the only one who wasn’t fazed by anything in today’s game, but it just wasn’t a great performance from us.

Mikey Burrows asked Naylor and Andy Thompson for their best Wolves player against Brentford, with Nayor adding: “I mentioned Kilman before, I don’t think he did a lot wrong.”

Kilman did OK on a bad day for Wolves

This was a game to forget for Wolves, but Kilman can hold his head higher than some others for his display.

According to Sofascore, the captain had the second-highest number of touches in the game with 93 (only Rayan Ait-Nouri had more, 103) and completed 72/82 passes (88%). He also made three clearances and three interceptions.

There wasn’t much he could have done for Toney’s goal, with Brentford capitalising on the sloppiness from Craig Dawson and getting the ball forward quickly to the striker. Kilman was out of position, but couldn’t really have accounted for the turnover of possession.

Hopefully Wolves can bounce back from this defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, and Kilman keeping Heung-min Son and co in check will be vitally important.
