Lee Naylor drops utterly damning verdict on Matheus Cunha after watching his display vs Arsenal

Wolves were beaten by Arsenal in their latest Premier League game – and former full-back Lee Naylor has given Matheus Cunha both barrels.

Wolves have now lost their last four games in a row and Vitor Pereira needs to find answers and quickly.

The club have now slipped into the relegation zone as a result of Leicester City’s win over Tottenham Hotspur today, and fans are growing massively concerned.

On Monday, Wolves lost against Chelsea and fans were critical of Matheus Cunha.

Ahead of that game, there were reports claiming that Cunha and his agent were stalling over a new contract at Wolves.

Some felt all the speculation distracted him, and Cunha again lacked influence against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Brazilian – who Wolves signed for £44 million (Guardian) – was better than he was at Stamford Bridge, but Lee Naylor was left majorly disappointed by Wolves’ talisman.

The performance of Cunha was always likely to come under the microscope on Saturday.

Arsenal are one of the teams interested in Cunha, although Wolves are reported to not want to sell the Brazilian.

Cunha struggled to make an impact against Arsenal, and was not picking the ball up in particularly dangerous areas.

After the match, Lee Naylor gave his verdict on Matchday Live Extra.

He said: “I’m sorry but, he wasn’t there today.

“From that first minute, he wasn’t the player that he normally is. Because there’s been a lot of talk about him… I don’t know if there’s been an offer, I’m not sure. There’s obviously been interest in him, and big interest for a reason. Because he’s top.

“But if you’re top, you’re top in everything you do. That means when you step on that field for Wolverhampton Wanderers, you work your socks off. He wasn’t doing that, end of. He wasn’t doing it. He wasn’t even sweating. He probably got more of a sweat on throwing his hands up in the air.”

Wolves need more from their main man Cunha

Cunha was better against Arsenal than he was against Chelsea, but he was still way below the standards Wolves fans now come to expect.

Arsenal were there for the taking after they went down to 10 men and that is when Cunha should have taken the game by the scruff of the neck.

Appearances – 23
Minutes played – 1807
Goals – 10
Assists – 4

It was disappointing, and now the focus will go back onto the player’s future.

Wolves don’t want to sell the player, but there will surely be more speculation in the coming days.

Wolves just need the window to close to put an end to it all. But not before a couple of additions are made.
