Latest Wolves transfer makes the record books as Premier League deal takes backseat

On July 1st, Jorgen Strand Larsen’s transfer from Celta Vigo was made official following the striker’s loan spell.

Wolves signed Strand Larsen on an initial loan from the Spanish club last summer, a deal that has since been made permanent.

The Norwegian signed a four-year contract after making the £23m move to Molineux, a bargain fee following the player’s impressive first season in England.

Strand Larsen made Wolves history by scoring as many as 14 Premier League goals from open play during his debut campaign, setting the bar high at the very start of his journey in WV1.

Jorgen Strand Larsen’s transfer to Wolves makes the history books

Though the fee has turned out to be a bargain for Wolves, who have a number nine who is more than up to the task, the move has written itself into the record books.

By completing his £23m transfer, Strand Larsen became the fourth most expensive Norwegian player ever in the sport.

The deal saw the striker leapfrog Sander Berge in the rankings, surpassing his £22m transfer fee to Sheffield United back in 2020.

3Alexander Sorloth£30m
4Jorgen Strand Larsen£23m

It comes as no surprise to see Erling Haaland top of the list after his move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City, with Martin Odegaard’s transfer to Arsenal coming in second.

Wolves target Alexander Sorloth is on the podium in third, and now, Strand Larsen is fourth on the list after his move was made permanent.

In terms of Wolves’ most expensive signings, the Norwegian striker now occupies seventh in the list, surpassing Andre’s £21m transfer from Fluminense.

Strand Larsen is a chart-topper in Europe

Wolves will be delighted that they struck a deal with Celta Vigo on a sale price before Strand Larsen even kicked a ball at Molineux.

Now, the Old Gold have secured a top striker for a slim fee, with the evidence there to suggest that Pereira’s number nine is one of the best around.

No striker in Europe’s top five leagues has averaged a higher shots-on-target percentage than Strand Larsen over the past year, with a massive 61.1% of the Norway international’s efforts being on target, as per FBref

In a similar metric, the Wolves star is one of the deadliest when it comes to having a chance on goal, sporting a 0.26 goal-to-shot ratio per 90, placing him in the top 3% of Europe’s best strikers.

Wolves landed a bargain with Strand Larsen, who will be eager to become the protagonist at Molineux next season.
