Lage comments on his forwards after two goals in seven games

Wolves are on a run of just two goals in their last seven Premier League games.

The move has been improved by Wednesday’s 1-0 win at Brighton, and Wolves are now back up to eighth.

And as per the Express and Star, Bruno Lage has praised the good work his forwards are doing, despite the fact it has not resulted in enough goals of late.

He also underlined the work they are doing to help the side have such a good defensive record, with four clean sheets in their last six league matches.

“If you look at the first games, Adama [Traore], for sure, deserved to score three or four goals with the way he created chances,” said Lage. “[Francisco] Trincao has had chances to score goals.

“So, these are the little things. All my strikers, all my forwards, are working hard. They create a lot of situations – crosses, on the floor, outside of the box and inside the box.

“There are a lot of things, so they’re working hard to increase their average, to score goals. I don’t put pressure on them. I put pressure on the way we work and the way we want to play, in the defensive way and offensive way.

“(Defending) starts from the strikers. Adama is pressing, and the way he presses with Daniel [Podence] and Trincao made it very hard for Brighton. It’s not just about the defenders. It’s about what we’re doing as a team.”

Romain Saiss of course got the goal at Brighton and Wolves do need another source of goals which is not Raul Jimenez.

Hwang Hee-Chan started well on that score but has faded in recent weeks and also got a midweek injury.

Adama Traore finally adding goals and assists to his game would be a welcome bonus and of course Pedro Neto is set to come back in the New Year.

But Lage is right to highlight the work the frontline is doing to help keep the team solid, which should not be underestimated.
