Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas has said the Reds simply wanted three points more than Wolves in Wednesday night’s Premier League clash – but complimented Julen Lopetegui’s side.
Wanderers crashed to defeat at Anfield, with Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah scoring in a 2-0 win.
Liverpool dominated in terms of possession and chances, and Wolves just couldn’t get going on Merseyside.
Lopetegui’s men were really poor on the ball, and rarely threatened Alisson in the Liverpool goal.
It was a shame to see such a disappointing display.
Wanderers had given Liverpool three good games prior to the one on Wednesday, and won the last meeting 3-0.
They were also coming into the game off the back of a respectable draw against Fulham.
It was an opportunity to pull away from the relegation zone. But many of the Wolves players were found wanting.
It just didn’t feel like Wolves had any urgency about them.
Speaking after game, £12 million Liverpool left-back Tsimikas suggested that Liverpool’s win was made possible in-part due to their desire being stronger.
He said (via Liverpool official): “Yeah, it was a very hard game against a very tough opponent but in the end we saw we wanted more these three points.
“They played really good, they defended us very well, but in the end we scored two wonderful goals – three wonderful goals, one was a foul – and I’m very, very happy for all the boys and our performance.”
It looked like Liverpool wanted it more against Wolves as Kostas Tsimikas delivers verdict
Wolves’ performance against Liverpool was really disappointing.
It did feel at times, especially in the second-half, that there was no real desire to get at Liverpool. That taking a point away from Anfield was the objective.
Liverpool were not even particularly good. It was a very poor quality game with both sides wasteful in possession.
In the end, it may well have been that Liverpool’s desire was actually the driving force for them.
