Wolves youngster Ki-Jana Hoever scored his first goal for the Netherlands U21s today.
The defender was on target against Gibraltar in their latest Euro 2023 qualifying match.
The Netherlands ran out comprehensive 7-0 winners at the College Cosmos Stadium.
It was a really positive afternoon for Hoever who, of course, hasn’t seen all that much football since he moved to Molineux in 2020 for around £13.5 million.
The 19-year-old is firmly behind Nelson Semedo in the pecking order at the moment.
This was, therefore, a good chance to blow off some cobwebs and perhaps send a message to Bruno Lage if he was watching.
Hoever scored on 20 minutes, and actually also provided a couple of assists for striker Joshua Zirkzee.
He picked him out with cut-back for an easy finish, and then also provided a nice cross to the back post for a simple tap-in.
Hoever sends message to Bruno Lage with latest Netherlands display
The former Liverpool starlet will hopefully take great confidence from his performance against Gibraltar.
He’ll have much tougher opponents, but to score and make two assists as a full-back is still pretty good regardless.
It’s tough for him at Molineux with the experienced Semedo clearly in favour with Lage.
The 27-year-old has made a good start to the new season too, so Hoever once again hasn’t had that many chances.
But it is important he shines where he can, to keep the pressure on the man currently in front of him.
His chance will eventually come, and he needs to be ready to step in.
