Julen Lopetegui's future at Wolves in doubt, but no suggestion yet he'll leave before his contract ends

Julen Lopetegui’s future at Wolves is reportedly in a little bit of doubt.

There were reports from Spain over the weekend about the Molineux coach, and sections of the British press are now validating the claims.

Apparently, Lopetegui will hold talks with his Wolves superiors this week.

Wolves are under pressure to sell players this summer in order to comply with FFP rules.

The club spent nearly £200 million this season, and must now balance the books to avoid sanctions.

The need to do this potentially affects what Lopetegui will be given in terms of a transfer budget this summer.

Express & Star journalist Liam Keen reports today that Lopetegui is ā€˜currently unhappy about the financial plans/concerns for the summer’.

The news is concerning.

Wolves fans have watched Lopetegui work miracles this season to pull the club away from danger.

The idea he could depart is definitely worrying.

But talkSPORT’s Alex Crooks has provided a slightly more positive update about the situation.

He wrote on Twitter earlier today: ā€œRe Lopetegui. Understand talks between him and the #Wolves board about the summer window and spending plans are ongoing. No suggestion at this point of the head coach leaving before his contract ends.ā€

Concerning times for Wolves as speculation starts about Julen Lopetegui’s future

The claims about Lopetegui come after the Express & Star published a report last week about the financial situation at Wolves.

So perhaps they shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

But they are concerning all the same.

Lopetegui has done an amazing job since he came to Molineux and it’s clear he is a top manager.

But the line from Crook is reason for optimsim.

Hopefully, Wolves officials can get things in order and keep hold of the man who could well take Wolves to where they need to be.
