Julen Lopetegui has been speaking about the need for strong communication at Wolves, and said he will look to further improve his English.
The Spaniard has officially now started work at Molineux.
A new era is finally underway at the club, following the sacking of Bruno Lage at the start of October.
It took longer than had been hoped, with executive chairman Jeff Shi admitting the process was painful at times. But Wolves have landed their top choice, and fans were delighted with the appointment.
Lopetegui arrives with real pedigree, having managed the likes of FC Porto, Spain, Real Madrid and Sevilla.
He’s achieved a lot in his career so far, and Wolves fans are very optimistic he can guide the club away from the relegation zone after the World Cup.
It’s a big job, and there are many areas he must address.
Lopetegui has done an interview with Guillem Balague following Wolves’ 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.
He spoke about how he ultimately ended up taking the job, and insisted he’ll work his socks off to get Wolves to safety.
At one point, the conversation turns to Lopetegui’s English skills.
His English is already at a pretty good level, considering he has never managed on these shores before.
But the 56-year-old says he is looking to improve it further as communication is so vital to success.
He told Balague: “I have to improve. I promise.
“I have to see films and to try to speak with my sons in English. They speak English better than their father. I have to improve.”
Balague: “Because communication is everything isn’t it? Not just understanding, but being able to say the way you want to say…
Lopetegui: “I agree with you. Each coach has his (own) style of coaching. I want to help my players. I feel better (with improved English) because I think I can help in some things. But of course, when the match starts, the main actors are the players.”
Communication won’t be a problem for Julen Lopetegui at Wolves, as he says he’ll further improve his English
Lopetegui’s English is currently already at a decent level.
But he’s also been filmed easily conversing with some of the players, like Goncalo Guedes, Matheus Nunes, Daniel Podence and Ruben Neves.
There probably isn’t going to be any issues with communication.
It’s good to hear that he intends to improve his English even further. This just shows how committed he is to making his time at Wolves a success.
It’s also going to be very good for that relationship between him and the fans and also the media.
