Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui has said he thinks Diego Costa will be ready to face Liverpool tomorrow night.
Wanderers are taking on the Reds in an FA Cup replay, after the previous match at Anfield ended 2-2.
For a lot of Wolves fans, the game is an annoyance.
First and foremost, an extra fixture in the schedule is not ideal in terms of keeping everyone fit and sharp for the Premier League, which is the priority.
And then there’s also the fact Wolves were extremely hard done by in the last game.
Toti Gomes’ goal being ruled out for offside was farcical, with Matheus Nunes’ positioning not picked up by cameras.
Wolves got a response from the PGMOL about the incident, and it was concluded that Nunes’ positioning was not shown because a TV cameraman had zoomed in too much.
The on-field decision then had to be upheld.
The game is something of an inconvenience, but Lopetegui will undoubtedly want to progress.
If the team plays anything like it did at Anfield, then they’ll have a great chance of advancing.
Liverpool are in total disarray at the moment, having just lost 3-0 to Brighton.
With the game being at Molineux, Wolves really do have a great chance. And Lopetegui may have the option to select Costa.
He said (via Birmingham Mail): “Diego Costa suffered an injury against Aston Villa. He is better and I think he is going to be ready – I hope – for the next match. We will see.”
Diego Costa should be named on bench for Wolves against Liverpool
It sounds like Costa has a good chance of being available against Liverpool.
But the veteran – who is thought to earn around £50,000-a-week – should not be starting against the Reds.
He hasn’t really done it so far for Wolves, although by many accounts he has been really good for the dressing room and behind the scenes.
He’ll be lacking a bit of match sharpness after missing the last three games for Wolves.
So Lopetegui shouldn’t be tempted to start him tomorrow night. Instead, Matheus Cunha and/or Raul Jimenez should play.
