Julen Lopetegui makes fresh admission after walking away from Wolves

Julen Lopetegui has admitted he has turned down many offers since walking away from Wolves just days before the new season, again suggesting he’s waiting for another Premier League job.

The Spaniard has given a new interview with Sky Sports, and has spoken a little bit about life after leaving Molineux.

Lopetegui departed Wolves after growing frustrated about the club’s financial situation. He had felt that the goalposts had been moved regarding the player recruitment, and did not feel he had the appropriate tools to work.

He informed Matt Hobbs he wanted to leave after the pre-season game with Celtic, and stayed in his post while Hobbs found a successor.

Lopetegui has expressed his sadness about his exit – which left a lot of the players confused – from Wolves, and has now been talking about the past few months as an unattached manager…

Lopetegui has been speaking to Sky Sports about what could be next for him.

The 57-year-old – who apparently turned down Saudi club Al Ittihad – still lives in Wolverhampton, and that is a strong indicator that he is waiting for another job in English football.

Lopetegui says that he’s had plenty of offers since leaving Wolves, but he is waiting for the right project. He said: “First of all, we don’t know what is going to happen. We are coaches, we never say never. Fortunately, I had different offers, different countries.

“For different reasons I prefer to stay, to wait, until I feel the right situation. It’s true that I have said no to different countries and offers, it’s true that I have the focus here. I prefer to wait until the moment that I feel is right and I can put my stamp in one club.”

Lopetegui was then asked directly if he was waiting for another Premier League job, with the former Sevilla head coach saying that it’s ‘true’ that he puts focus on the English top-flight.

It is not the first time Lopetegui has stated that he is keen to remain in the Premier League.

Lopetegui seems determined to secure another PL job

It is interesting to note the amount of interviews Lopetegui has done since leaving Wolves.

He is clearly very intent on getting back into management and clearly, staying in England is his priority.

It seems that he feels it is important to stay visible, with the season now approaching its halfway point. Potentially, it is a time when club owners will be considering managerial changes.

Just recently, there has been mention of Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, while Manchester United have also been loosely linked.
