Chiquinho is not going to be back on the grass ‘any time soon’ for Wolves, according to an update from Express & Star journalist Liam Keen.
The young winger suffered an ACL injury during a pre-season friendly match against Burnley back in early July.
Chiquinho had enjoyed a really promising end to last season.
He was bought by the club in January. His arrival wasn’t really made a big deal of at the time.
He arrived for just under £3 million. And it was thought he would be spending most of his time with the U23s.
But Chiquinho was a part of Bruno Lage’s first-team squad. He started to make several cameo appearances a few weeks after joining.
Lage started to use him a bit more towards the end of the campaign. The youngster really caught the eye with his performance against Chelsea, against whom he got two assists.
He also started against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium as a wing-back and was Wolves’ best player that evening.
So his injury against Burnley was massively frustrating.
Many supporters were really excited to see him in action this season, but he won’t be featured according to Keen.
The journalist was speaking on the Express & Star podcast yesterday, and gave an update on the player’s recovery.
Answering a question about if he was close to being back on the training pitch, he said: “I don’t believe so, no.
“We’re still trying to find out the latest with him. But I know that it was such a bad injury that they were looking at July pre-season ahead of an August return. If you’re looking at working back from that date, he’s not going to be on the grass any time soon.”
A gruelling period for Chiquinho, as Liam Keen provides update on injured winger
It is such a shame Chiquinho won’t be able to play for Wolves this season.
He was looking electric in those final games of 2021/22. Fans couldn’t wait to see him play a bit more this term after getting a little bit of experience under his belt.
It’s going to be a long road back for him, and he will surely find it a frustrating period.
Hopefully he is able to come back for Wolves in the future and put this awful injury firmly behind him.
Given his explosive style, fans will be praying the nature of the injury will not affect his mobility and athleticism too much.
