Wolves have been rocked by news of a serious injury for Matheus Cunha, with the Brazilian the latest star set for a spell on the sidelines at Molineux.
Cunha had to be withdrawn during the early stages of Wolves’ game with Brentford on Saturday.
O’Neil said after the game that the player had actually felt OK and was hopeful that it wasn’t serious.
But on Wednesday, O’Neil provided a fresh update, informing fans that Cunha has sustained a ‘significant’ hamstring injury. No timeframe has been placed on Cunha’s return, which is a worry.
Express & Star journalist Liam Keen has now reported a bit more information regarding the 24-year-old’s lay-off period…
Matheus Cunha not expected to be out for the rest of the season for Wolves after sustaining ‘significant’ hamstring injury

News of Cunha’s injury has come to the dismay of many Wanderers supporters today.
The former Atletico Madrid man has been one of the team’s best performers this season, scoring 11 goals and making seven assists across all competitions.
He’s thrived under Gary O’Neil, who has regularly praised him in interviews and press conferences.
He will not be playing for a while now, but Liam Keen has allayed fears this evening that Cunha won’t play again this season.
Writing on X, he said: “Wolves still hopeful of Matheus Cunha playing again before the end of the season. No expectation that his season is over and player/staff confident he’ll be back to playing before the end of the campaign.”
Frustration for Wolves
News of Cunha’s injury is a huge shame, because he was having an absolutely immense season for Wolves.
He has taken his game to a new level this season under O’Neil, and now it looks like he will miss a large chunk of the remainder of the season.
The fact we are even talking about hin potentially missing the rest of the campaign just highlights the severity.
Wolves haven’t really shared any details of the nature of the, and obviously there is no timeframe for his return so seemingly, it’s a pretty serious one for Cunha.
Hopefully, other players such as Pedro Neto, Hwang Hee-chan and Pablo Sarabia can step up in his absence, as well as young Nathan Fraser, who will surely be getting some decent chances now.
