Jose Sa, Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves will not join Wolves teammates in Marbella

Wolves’ Portuguese trio Jose Sa, Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves will reportedly return to training this weekend, and won’t be flying out to Marbella.

The three players are now out of the World Cup, following Portugal’s shock defeat to Morocco on Saturday.

They lost 1-0, with Youssef En-Nesyri heading the winner for Morocco just before half-time.

It was a magnificent jump by the striker to head in Hakim Ziyech’s cross.

Morocco then defended superbly well, and have advanced to the semi-finals as a result. They now face world champions France.

So it was heartbreak for Sa, Nunes and Neves, who will now dust themselves down during a few days off.

According to the Express & Star, the trio will not be heading out to Marbella for warm weather training.

It has been determined that Sa, Nunes and Neves will resume training at the weekend at Compton Park.

Raul Jimenez and Hwang Hee-chan are both out in Marbella, having exited the World Cup earlier with Mexico and South Korea respectively.

Jimenez featured in the first friendly match against Empoli, and Hwang should get minutes against Cadiz after joining up with his teammates at the weekend.

Wolves’ decision on Sa, Nunes and Neves makes sense

It is understandable that these three players aren’t flying out to Marbella.

They have just finished up at the World Cup, and will need some time to process and rest up a little.

Sa didn’t get any minutes out in Qatar, but with the squad flying back tomorrow it doesn’t really make much sense for him – or Nunes and Neves – to join up with them.

Hopefully, they can return this weekend nice and refreshed, and ready to impress new head coach Julen Lopetegui.

These three players are going to be absolutely key to turning things around.

They are perhaps the three most influential players in the starting XI, and Lopetegui needs them all to step up.
