Jose Sa has heaped praise on Wolves boss Bruno Lage, stating he is ‘like a father’ and ‘like a friend’.
The goalkeeper was speaking after Wolves last game against Aston Villa, which finished 2-1 to Wanderers.
It was a superb performance at Molineux, and the performance made up for the frustrating defeat to Leeds United.
The win was Wolves’ 15th in the Premier League so far this season.
The club are now up to 49 points from 31 games, which is a fantastic return. For context, last season, the club finished with 45.
Lage came to Wolves last summer as an unknown quantity, and a lot of people thought Wanderers might struggle this term.
But it’s been quite the opposite, with Wolves still pushing for European football at this stage of the season.
Lage has done a sterling job, and it seems the players are very fond of him and the way he works.
After the win over Villa, Sa spoke very warmly indeed about the 45-year-old.
He said (Wolves official): “I knew him from Benfica, when I was there, he was too. I never worked with him at Benfica, but I have some friends who did and when they talk about him, they talk like a father.
“He works very well, he likes to play, and after he was coach of Benfica, and he did a very good job there. He’s a very good coach who likes to play and is a very good guy.
“I’m very happy to work with him. He’s like a friend for everybody, so if we need to talk with him, we can. He will explain everything for us and when he feels we are not OK, he talks with us and this is good for the group.”
Bruno Lage having the love and respect of his dressing room can help Wolves soar
Sa is not the first to really pile the praise on Lage, and he probably won’t be the last before the season is out.
It’s clear he has been a hugely popular appointment with the players.
So many individuals have reached new levels since he has been at the helm.
They clearly like how he operates, and obviously his work ethic has been translating into positive results. That will only see the players like and trust him more.
