Jose Sa confronts Wolves fans after defeat to Burnley

Jose Sa did not feature for Wolves against Burnley, but the goalkeeper still confronted and listened to the frustrations of fans after the game.

The Old Gold faithful’s feelings are clear; they are frustrated. The unsavoury scenes at Molineux following full-time show how toxic things have gotten.

Vitor Pereira had to be dragged away from the South Bank, as an onslaught of jeers and boos did not please the head coach.

A few of Wolves’ players stood and listened to the supporters, and that is commendable, but the performances on the pitch have not been good enough.

After the match, Jose Sa was met by supporters outside the stadium, and here is what went down.

Jose Sa stays to talk with fans after Burnley defeat

Jose Sa has not featured for Wolves for quite some time due to the form of Sam Johnstone. His last appearance came on the 20th of September in the 3-1 loss to Leeds United.

However, while he had no part to play in the defeat to Burnley on Sunday, the goalkeeper still stood up and spoke to fans following the game.

As he was coming out of Molineux, he was met with some angry supporters, and instead of ignoring them, he decided to stay and speak.

Originally, the conversation was tense, with Jose Sa shouting, “What can I do? Tell me what I can do?” When security came over to usher fans and the player away, Sa told them, “No, it is ok. We are just talking.”

The Portuguese’s actions seemed to turn the heat down, and the conversation eventually became much more relaxed.

Fans told the keeper that they needed to see much more passion on the pitch, and the goalkeeper agreed, saying, “The way we concede goals is unacceptable.”

He was also asked who is to blame for the current situation, with Sa responding by saying, “It is not only ours; it is not only the players.”

Shortly after, he said, “When we lose, I go home and cannot speak with my wife because I am sad.”

Fans clearly respected that the goalkeeper was willing to have a discussion with them, and a round of applause ensued.

The video of Sa conversing with fans circulated on X, formerly known as Twitter, following the match on Sunday.

At the moment, the toxicity is high around the club, but that moment by the goalkeeper could ease tensions.

Vitor Pereira’s future is safe for now, but that could change quickly.

Jorgen Strand Larsen confirmed the squad is still backing Pereira, but that may not matter if the Old Gold fall to defeat against Fulham on Saturday.

Respect to Jose Sa

It would have been easy for Jose Sa to get in his car and drive away, but he clearly cares about the situation at the club, and he was willing to listen to fans.

Sa clearly respects the opinions of the supporters, and that respect was given back by those fans waiting outside the ground.

The players at the club care, but the performances need to start showing that.

It will be a tough task to pull the Old Gold out of the relegation zone, but that can start with a win against Fulham next weekend.

The Wanderers are no doubt underdogs, and getting three points will be a tough task, but if the squad can channel the same passion Jose Sa showed, you never know what is possible.
