Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen has opened up about his side’s recent defeat to Liverpool.
It’s been a terrible start to the 2024/25 campaign for Wolves, who are one of five clubs to have not yet secured a win in the Premier League.
Gary O’Neil is in desperate need of three points, with the Old Gold sitting 20th in the table after a trialling start to the league schedule.
From their opening six Premier League fixtures, Wolves have already played five of last season’s top seven, with the most recent battle being Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

Jorgen Strand Larsen assesses Wolves defeat to Liverpool
Given how encouraging O’Neil’s side were in spells of the 2023/24 campaign, it’s difficult to digest how poorly the Midlands club have started this season.
Added to the difficulty in fixtures, Wolves have suffered injury woes and an inability to remain sharp for 90 minutes, making it increasingly difficult to earn results.
While Wolves’ squad is packed with top talent and more than capable of challenging for a mid-table spot this term, mistakes are being made too frequently, as striker Jorgen Strand Larsen admitted.

Speaking to Express and Star after the defeat to Liverpool, the summer signing expressed his frustration at the manner of the loss.
“We concede too easily. Both of their goals came out of nothing and shouldn’t be a goal,” Stand Larsen explained.
“For the second one we were stupid. We had just scored and we were going a little bit crazy and conceded a foul. It was a penalty – it’s difficult to say it wasn’t a penalty.
“So we made those kinds of mistakes, all of us. It’s no-one in particular, it’s the whole team and that cost us the game.”

The forward called out the theme of Wolves impressing in games this season, all to come away with nothing, which is something the squad are aware they must fix.
“It’s really bad because we had momentum for the whole game and it feels really frustrating now because we’ve had that momentum in all of our games.
“Yet we stand here with only one point after six games. But I really believe in this team and I believe in the future it will come. It’s already coming more and more.”
Wolves need points from upcoming Premier League fixtures
Heading into October without a win is something that O’Neil must change imminently, although, it’s not set to be an easy task for Wolves.
Despite having an incredibly difficult start to the season, the fixture list is not ready to be more forgiving to the Old Gold just yet, with October presenting three further challenges.
Date | Opponent | Home/Away |
5th Oct | Brentford | A |
20th Oct | Manchester City | H |
26th Oct | Brighton | A |
2nd Nov | Crystal Palace | H |
9th Nov | Southampton | H |
Wolves play three Premier League games in October, two of which coming away from home in duels against Brentford and Brighton.
Between the two trips on the road is a blockbuster clash at Molineux, as champions Manchester City pay a visit, piling the pressure on O’Neil’s squad to pick up points where possible before November hits.
The prospect of being winless three months into the season is a huge concern although, one thing that’s certain is that the squad don’t lack belief, as Strand Larsen stressed.
