Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen has reacted to the Old Gold’s recent defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Vitor Pereira’s honeymoon period is certainly over as Wolves lost 3-1 to Chelsea, recording their third consecutive Premier League defeat.
The loss ensured that the West Midlands club remained on the fence between relegation and safety, level on points with 18th-place Ipswich Town.
Wolves are at risk of relegation if results don’t change promptly but first, the Old Gold must improve significantly in defence.

Jorgen Strand Larsen questions Wolves defence after Chelsea defeat
Wolves have conceded the most goals in the Premier League with 51 and most concerningly, have conceded 19 from set-pieces.
After the Chelsea defeat, Pereira called on his squad to improve from set play, as once again, Wolves conceded from a dead ball scenario.
The Wolves manager wasn’t the only figure to comment on the Old Gold’s poor defending at Stamford Bridge, as Jorgen Strand Larsen offered his evaluation.

Speaking to Wolves’ official website, the Norweigan first commented on missed opportunities in front of goal before turning his attention to the defence.
“We also need to try to not concede easy goals. We’re conceding [too many], but especially easy goals,” he declared.
“I feel like those goals today [vs Chelsea] are quite easy and we need to stay away from them, because the most important thing against these big teams is to stay in the game as long as possible, but it’s been tough the last few games.”
The Wolves striker was not impressed by how his teammates, and himself, defended against the Blues, who carved the Old Gold open with little effort at Stamford Bridge.
Strand Larsen received criticism for his own performance against Chelsea, with very few players avoiding critique in another humiliating defeat.
Wolves are deteriorating in defence
Strand Larsen will have his critics for the frequency of big chances he’s missing at present however, there’s no disagreeing with the Norway international’s statement.
Wolves are going backwards at rapid speed defensively, on course to obliterate their worst tally of goals conceded since promotion to the Premier League in 2018.
Season | Goals conceded after 22 games | Goals conceded total |
2018/19 | 28 | 46 |
2019/20 | 28 | 40 |
2020/21 | 31 | 52 |
2021/22 | 17 | 43 |
2022/23 | 31 | 58 |
2023/24 | 35 | 65 |
2024/25 | 51 | ? |
Already, the Old Gold have let in more goals than three of their previous six seasons in the English top flight and with 16 games left to play, it’s terrifying to imagine what the tally could read in May.
Creating chances and missing opportunities is one tweak that must be made but in defence, appropriate changes could be the difference between survival and relegation.
