Jorgen Strand Larsen shares his honest reaction to Wolves sacking Vitor Pereira

Wolves are in the process of finding a new manager, and Jorgen Strand Larsen has reacted to the sacking of Vitor Pereira.

Wolves parted company with Pereira on Sunday morning, with the 3-0 defeat to Fulham proving to be the final straw.

Pressure had been mounting on Pereira, but the board had been very keen to give him every chance, after they gave him a new contract in September in an attempt to provide solidity.

Pereira’s position had become untenable, and the hierarchy are now looking for his successor with several names having already been touted.

At the moment, Rob Edwards is Wolves’ top choice.

This, after Gary O’Neil sensationally withdrew from the process to become Wolves’ next manager.

Whoever comes in is seriously up against it, with Pereira having overseen a shocking start.

But despite his struggles, Jorgen Strand Larsen has moved to praise the Portuguese.

Over the last two weeks or so, things really started to unravel under Pereira.

Back-to-back defeats against newly promoted sides Sunderland and Burnley put his position in real jeopardy, and the scenes in front of the South Bank after the defeat to Burnley were worrying.

Pereira just couldn’t find a successful formula, and made some bizarre team selections. The dropping of both Joao Gomes and Andre against Fulham springs to mind.

But despite his struggles, Strand Larsen has had a positive word to say about Pereira.

He said: “I have a lot to thank Vítor for.

“He had confidence in me last year, and was important to me when I found my form. And he was important when the team found its form over the winter.

“That’s how football is. It hasn’t worked, and maybe this is what we need.

“There are many exciting names being mentioned, we will probably get more information later in the week. The most important thing for us is to bring in a manager who can light a new spark in the group.

“Hopefully we can get the same effect we got when Vítor came in a year ago.”

Fosun facing biggest decision as Wolves owners

Pereira had to go, and some will argue he should have gone a few weeks ago.

The decision to hand him a new contract surely bought him more time, and we will see how costly that proves to be.

Fosun now surely face their biggest decision since buying the club.

This appointment is so important. Wolves are adrift right now, but there is still a lot of football left to play and there is faint hope of staying up.

It’s an extremely unenviable job, but whoever takes it has the potential to become an instant cult hero at Molineux if they can keep Wolves up.
