Jordan Henderson admits Wolves signing Carlos Forbs was ‘not ideal’ as Ajax problem emerges

Wolves have been made aware of the repercussions of the summer transfer of Carlos Forbs on deadline day.

The Old Gold finished off the summer transfer window in style, welcoming Sam Johnstone, Andre and Forbs on the final day.

Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs had a plan to bolster the squad over the summer at Molineux however, improvements on the pitch remain a work in progress.

After the opening five games of the Premier League season, Wolves sit bottom of the table with just one point to their name.

Jordan Henderson opens up about Wolves signing Carlos Forbs

For fans at Molineux, it feels like Wolves are the only club enduring a rough start this term, with the squad seemingly unable to put together a strong 90 minutes.

The Old Gold aren’t the only side who have started in less desired form, as in the Netherlands, Ajax are failing to impress.

There was a tie between Wolves and Ajax this summer, as O’Neil welcomed Forbs to Molineux on deadline day, signing the winger on loan from the Dutch giants.

Since his departure, things haven’t been going well for Ajax, as Jordan Henderson recently explained, referencing how much his squad are missing Forbs.

“It’s not ideal to lose one or two of your wingers on the final day of the transfer market,” Henderson said in a post-match press conference following Ajax’s draw against Go Ahead Eagles.

“We’ve lost quality. But with the guys who played today, it was possible. We have to help them get into one-on-one situations, but they didn’t bring anything. It’s not just the wingers, but it has to be better.”

Henderson was alluding to the departures of Steven Bergwijn and Forbs, with Ajax struggling to create in wide areas without the electrifying duo.

Gary O’Neil should start utilising Forbs

It’s been a slow start at Wolves for Forbs, who is waiting to get a firm chance to impress O’Neil due to competition in the squad.

The winger has played 13 minutes in the Premier League so far this season, most recently being an unused substitute during the Old Gold’s defeat to Aston Villa.

In the Carabao Cup against Brighton, the Portuguese forward came on at the Amex to try and make an impact, showing the threat he can provide when called upon.

It’s set to be an interesting season for Forbs, whose loan from Ajax will turn into an obligation to buy if he is handed 10 starts by O’Neil, something that at this point looks unlikely.

Wolves have to find results, reinforcing that the manager needs to revise his favoured XI, which could open a door for players like Forbs in the near future.
