John Ruddy sends brilliant message to Vitinha as former Wolves loanee wins Champions League

Vitinha is the talk of the town, after playing a starring role in the Champions League final for Paris Saint-Germain against Inter Milan.

PSG won 5-0 against Inter in a very one-sided final in Munich.

The French champions were simply no match for Inter, and they have finally achieved one of their biggest objectives.

And they might not have had such an easy time of it had Vitinha not been so brilliant in midfield.

The former Wolves loanee shone in the game and inevitably, there were plenty of mentions of the fact he had a season at Molineux after the game.

Wolves declined to sign Vitinha permanently after the 2020/21 season for around £17 million.

Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves made it hard for Vitinha to play regularly for Wolves, and he spent a lot of time on the bench.

But Nuno Espirito Santo also felt Vitinha didn’t play quickly enough in training.

After last night’s final, Vitinha lapped up the praise from all corners – and former Wolves goalkeeper John Ruddy also sent a message.

Many will question why Wolves did not sign Vitinha permanently.

But the club felt unwilling to risk splashing that much money, having not really seen consistency from the youngster.

Arguably, he would not have become the player he is today had he remained at Wolves.

But certainly, his rise to the very top has left a lot of Wolves supporters feeling uncomfortable.

One of the best moments Vitinha enjoyed during his short stint at Wolves was when he scored his only goal against Chorley in the FA Cup.

It was a stunning strike, and one that John Ruddy has not forgotten, as he referenced it in a message to Vitinha last night.

He said on his Instagram Story: “Man like @Vitinha… the streets won’t forget Chorley away 😂🙌”

Vitinha produced Champions League final masterclass

Vitinha was heavily involved against PSG and has the second highest number of touches in the whole game with 89 – only Achraf Hakimi had more (93).

He was near-perfect on the ball, completing 72/80 passes (90% accuracy). Four of these were key passes.

And of course, Vitinha also grabbed an assist in the game, setting up Desire Doue for his second to make it 3-0 to PSG.

Vitinha also had five defensive actions – which included two clearances, two tackles and an interception – to boot.
