John Ruddy comments on his future again as Wolves contract winds down

Wolves goalkeeper John Ruddy has said the decision for him to potentially stay another year at Wolves ‘is in the club’s hands’.

The veteran stopper made his first Premier League appearance of the season yesterday against Norwich City.

Ruddy has been playing second fiddle to Jose Sa this term, having been Rui Patricio’s understudy for the three seasons previous.

It has been a somewhat frustrating time for Ruddy, although he has always accepted his role at Molineux.

Any potential chances for Ruddy to re-establish himself as the number one at Wolves after Patricio’s departure were quickly extinguished, with Sa proving his quality in almost every game.

The 29-year-old has proven to be a gem of a signing, and yesterday he was named Supporters’ Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season.

Ruddy recently stated that he felt as though he still had a lot more to give.

And after yesterday’s game against his former club, Ruddy said that the decision is now with Wolves.

He said: “On a personal level I’m not sure, it’s in the club’s hands, so I’ll wait and see what they say. As a club, it’s no secret that it’s going to be a big summer, a summer of transition.

This group’s been together since I’ve been here, for five years, and has done exceptionally well.

“I don’t think we get enough credit as a group, what we’ve done over the period of time. It’s going to be a big summer and the club need a way forward and a plan of what they want to do.”

John Ruddy may stay at Wolves, but Saturday could have been a hint

So we still don’t know yet if Ruddy will be sticking around for another year at Molineux. The fact he played against Norwich in the final game at Molineux though could well have been an indicator that the club are ready to move him on.

It sounds as though Ruddy could be keen to do another season. It’s just whether Wolves would be happy to offer him another extension.

There were claims recently that the club did want to keep hold of him.

But it remains to be seen if they ring true, or whether Wolves will seek to bring in someone else.

Perhaps Matija Sarkic could be seen as an option. Although the Montenegro international has suggested he could be keen to rejoin Birmingham City.
